• I/ GROUP: at the centre is always an individual (I) or a group (We) as the ‘owner’ of a question or problem.
  • QUESTION/PROBLEM (feeling): a judgement process always starts in the present with a question or problem of an individual or a group. A question or a problem is rooted in people’s emotional life, in feeling. Underneath a question lies a felt ‘lack’ of knowing and the need to meet it. Behind a problem lies a felt ‘shortage’ of adequate action and the need to meet it.
  • COMMITMENT: A group can only work adequately on a question or problem if the group members also feel committed to the question or problem. If this is not the case, they are likely to become obstructionist or drop out.
Interest: the feeling expressing a felt ‘lack’ of knowing and the need to meet it. It is the driving force behind asking for an answer.
  • Oppression: the feeling in which a felt ‘shortage’ of adequate action and the need to provide for it expresses itself. It is the driving force behind the problem to arrive at a solution.
  • Path of knowledge: the path taken by the individual or group to arrive at an answer in the form of an insight through a question, based on interest. The path of knowledge is past-oriented.
  • FACTS (perceiving): direct sensory perceptions and memories of sensory perceptions in the form of facts, data, information, experiences, descriptions and the like.
  • CONCEPTS (thinking): conceptions, thoughts, views, norms, values, visions, theories and the like. The frame of reference by which the individual or group gives meaning to the facts and their connections.
  • (Provisional) INSIGHT: a provisional insight is the result of the process that has taken place on the path of knowledge. The provisional insight arises at the moment the individual or group finds a satisfactory answer in the dialogue between FACTS and CONCEPTS, between perceiving and thinking.
  • Path of choice: the path taken by the individual or the group, from oppression via a problem statement to a solution in the form of a decision to take action. The choice path is future oriented.
  • GOALS: (will): aims, objectives, ideals etc. That which the individual or group wants to achieve. The activity involved is willing.
  • MEANS (acting): all (auxiliary) means to achieve the goal such as tools, money, manpower, method, plan of action, course of action, operationalization and the like. The activity associated with it is acting.
    (preliminary)
  • DECISION: A preliminary decision is the result of the process that has taken place on the choice path. The preliminary decision arises at the moment the individual or group finds a satisfactory solution in the dialogue between GOALS and MEANS, between will and acting.
